Quaternary Structure in Life

It was a dark and stormy night.
And the rain was falling fast! Said the captain to his men, “Come, and I will tell you a story!” And the story went like this:

“It was a dark and stormy night. And the rain was falling fast!….”

Get it? Life is circular.

Without really thinking about it, I used to assume that life was linear. I believed (or maybe just hoped) that each day made me one day wiser or stronger or braver or somehow better than the day before.

But now I am finding that life is more like the quaternary structure of a DNA protein.

We become who we are through a complex series of interactions, bonds, forces and movements. There is forward, but it isn’t preferable to backward. Life can become higher or brighter or sweeter or happier—but it can also be deeper and darker, bitter and bolder. And it is the complicated truth that “Everything Belongs”.

Everything belongs. Even dark and stormy nights.
